The article Home/ Not Home: Centering American Studies
Where We Are has given me a new awareness of defining home. Warrior invokes
the concept that home becomes where we are located, to my understanding
community is built through common locations and work. La India Maria, a
fictional character that approached many relevant discourses with a sense of
humor, once said “Ni de aqui ni de alla”(not from here or there). Here saying
seems relevant because she faces this checkerboard identity but the city she
lives in becomes her home. Similar to Warrior’s brother wanting his ashes
spread where he felt home and where he has roots.
