Language and Coming Out

Several communities have spoken about the way "coming out" language can sometimes indicate that we are leaving our communities (instead of the confines placed on us within communities).  Some talk about looking at alternative language, such as presenting ourselves.  There are many ways we can have these discussions, and many languages we can use.  There is not likely to be one word or phrase that fits all individuals and all occasions.  What you should always keep in mind are these stories, and the real consequences many of us face when we hide, and when we make ourselves visible.

As in all of our discussions think about power.  

And, remember that every individual makes the choice for themselves as to how they will present themselves, when, where and with who.  We should not make those decisions for other individuals, and we are not equipped to judge individuals for the decisions they make.
