Power in Diaspora Communities
Diasporas
in Ang’s context place trauma in the present. Trauma is not limited to the
motherland or to the passage, but rather it is an ongoing experience of
adapting as a migrant. The diaspora works to create networks and links of
international social, economic, and political support. The modern diasporic
subjects become transnational subjects with invested interests in both country
of origin and host country.
Communities that experience both trauma and isolation also exert influence far
beyond the territorial boundary of the host country. They are the human links
of an increasingly globalized world. Within those links, there is power.
